On February 11, 2018, the Center for Research on International Cooperation in Educational Development, University of Tsukuba (CRICED) and SEAMEO co-organised the 6th annual SEAMEO – University of Tsukuba Symposium on the theme “Values Education and Global Citizenship: Towards the Achievement of Sustainable Development Goals and Progress of Society” with support from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan (MEXT), in Tokyo campus, University of Tsukuba.
The symposium witnessed the participation of 53 representatives from SEAMEO Centres, University of Tsukuba and other organisations with a total twenty lectures. SEAMEO CELLL contributed to the symposium with a presentation on the concepts and roles of Global Citizenship Education (GCED) and Lifelong Learning (LLL) in equipping future global citizens with necessary skills. The presentation emphasised that GCED should be implemented on a LLL perspective, which has flexibility as one of its most important properties so that GCED can be brought to anyone, by any way, in anywhere, at any time.
