On 12-13 May 2022 SEAMEO RETRAC organised the regional workshop “Enhancing inclusive and equitable quality education in Southeast Asia through innovative educational leadership and management” at the Centre location. Participating in the event were the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam, representatives from international organisations, universities, SEAMEO Secretariat and centres. The workshop aims to take stock of knowledge, experience and lessons from the countries.
Dr Ho Thanh My Phuong, Director of SEAMEO RETRAC, welcomed the participants in the workshop. She maintained that inclusive and equitable quality education has remained elusive, especially in developing countries, thus in need of stronger efforts from governments.
Mr Khau Huu Phuoc reflects on the concept of inclusiveness and equity
Mr Khau Huu Phuoc, SEAMEO CELLL’ Manager of Research and Training, shared his reflection on the concept of inclusiveness and equity as commonly practised in the field of education and how Vietnam has progressed in these aspects through an example of Ha Giang Province. He highlighted the general narrow view of inclusive education as implemented widely in the region and the need to take a more comprehensive view.
The workshop concluded with recommendations for improved innovative leadership and management in education for inclusive and equitable education in the region.
This workshop is one of many inter-centre collaboration programmes conducted by SEAMEO centres under the initiation and support of SEAMEO Secretariat to synergise their resources through collaboration with peer centres since 2015.
