On 6 and 10 May 2022, DVV International (Institute for International Cooperation of the Deutscher Volkshochschul-Verband e.V., the German Adult Education Association), and SEAMEO CELLL conducted two global launches of the new training curriculum for managers of adult education centres titled Curriculum ManagerALE. This curriculum was developed by SEAMEO CELLL’s team of authors consisting of Khau Huu Phuoc, Manager of Research and Training of SEAMEO Regional Centre for Lifelong Learning; Walter Baeten, a Consultant in Higher and Adult Education, former Director and Trainer of SENAEDIN vzw, Belgium; and Tong Lien Anh a specialist from the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam with the professional advice of Dr Johann Heilmann, Director of DVV Regional South-East Asia.
Curriculum ManagerALE is based on three bases: OECD concept of competency, Malcolm Knowles’ Andragogy in connection with the participatory principles, and the outline of the piloted programmes in Cambodia and Lao PDR. Together with Curriculum GlobALE for AEC staff capacity development, and the Curriculum InstitutionALE for enhanced centre efficiency developed previously, this will form a strong base for the professionalisation of adult education personnel. DVV International will begin using Curriculum MangerALE in its projects across the globe in 2023.
The year 2022 is marked by the seventh organisation of the CONFINTEA (International Conference of Adult Education). This significant event, which takes place once every 12-13 years, and is expected to be attended by educators, researchers and policymakers from the UN member states and territories will review the context of the development of ALE globally and recommend a framework for action that will purposefully drive ALE forward in a strategic and firm manner that benefit adult learners around the world. The Curriculum for Managers of Adult Education Centres will be part of this long-term endeavour.
